Sermon Title: Survivor’s of the Wrath of God Part 2
Sermon Text: Revelation 7:9-17
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to worship God and the Lamb of God, with the praise of appreciation for salvation.
Sermon Proposition: There are 4 results of the praise of appreciation for God’s salvation of mankind.
I. The praise of appreciation for salvation leads to salutations. V.9-12
1 Peter 1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven -- things which angels desire to look into.
Luke 15:7 "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. . . . 10 "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
Matthew 8:11 "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Hebrews 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
“God is the great savior, the great rescuer, the great deliverer of His people, And the deliverance which God gives is the greatest deliverance of all, for it is not the deliverance of escape; it is the deliverance of conquest. It is not the deliverance which saves a man from trouble it is the deliverance which brings a man triumphantly through trouble. It does not make life easy, but it certainly makes life great. It is not part of the Christian hope to look for a life in which a man is saved from all trouble and distress; the Christian hope is that a man in Christ can endure any kind of trouble and distress, and remain erect all through them, and come out to glory on the other side” (The Revelation of John, Vol. 2. “The Daily Study Bible.” Philadelphia, PA: The Westminister Press, 1959, p.32).
II. The praise of appreciation for salvation leads to sanctification. V.13-14 (Rev 13:7; 13:15)
Matthew 24:21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 "And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.
“Of this period Thomas writes: It is the superlatively great crisis of trial through which all rebels against God must pass just before Christ’s second coming. The servants of God will not suffer the direct effects of God’s wrath. They will be untouched by it (Caird). The saints on earth will not be exempt from the ire of God’s enemies during this period, however. During both the Great Tribulation and the three-and-one-half years of tribulation before it, they will bear the brunt of suffering caused by anti-God animosities. The intensity of persecution will be a marked increase over that experienced before this end-time arrives and will increase again when the seven-year period reaches its midpoint. Some will have already been martyred by the end of the sixth seal (cf. 6:9-11) and many more persecuted in other ways. (Revelaiton 1-7, 497) (The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Revelation 1-11, Moody Press, Chicago,1999, p. 231).
III. The praise of appreciation for salvation leads to service. V.15
A. The service of praise is offered in the presence of God. V.15a
Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? 43 "Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 "Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
Matthew 25:23 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
2 Timothy 2:12 If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.
B. The service of praise is offered persistently before God. V.15b (John 14:1-3)
IV. The praise of appreciation for salvation leads to shepherding. V.16-17
A. The worshipper will have their physical needs met. V.16
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Isaiah 49:10 They shall neither hunger nor thirst, Neither heat nor sun shall strike them; For He who has mercy on them will lead them, Even by the springs of water He will guide them.
